And how often would someone have to go to the classes to earn respect?

I suppose that would depend 100% on the school.

its earned by giving it. by going to class and training to get better not just so you can say you train

I respect most people at my gym whether they train for fun or to fight. What I don’t respect are the ghetto punks that come in and talk more about how tuff they are rather then train. So if you train then you have my respect whether skinny, fat, or built. Just leave the ego at the door.

Usually everyone will respect you from day 1.

If you mean how long to they think that you’re a good fighter, then as long as it takes to show that you’re a good fighter. Some could walk in and be worth training with from day one. Others may take time.

At the end of the day stop stressing about what level others are at and concentrate on getting better yourself and you will find that you get better quicker.

Drop all ego and you go far.

The first night. If you do what you are told and keep trying they will respect you as a new guy who has turned up to do a tough sport. And the more you go the more you get.

Really though no one makes a big deal about the whole ‘respect’ thing. That is for MC’s, gang bangers and other fraidycats whose survival depends more on having a good bluff and selling music clips.

Fighting you are just there to fight. Very simple.

Well congratulations you’ve learned a valuable lesson in life respect is earned not given. As for when well you have to give respect back to get some. It’s a two way street. By sticking through your training and showing respect to some of the senior fighters you will earn it.

As for trying to impress some of the punks who just come to beat people up or play bad *** for a couple nights a week pay no attention to them their respect is not worth having.

You should find respect from the moment you walk in to the gym. Respect is a basic human courtesy that should be extended to everyone. If it is not, why would you want to continue to stay and train at such a place.

Trust, loyalty, friendship, support, these are things you need to deomonstrate and offer in order to earn them from those you’ll meet at the gym, or anywhere else in life.

My advice to you would be forget about looking for something from others, and focus more on what you are doing and how you are presenting yourself to those others.
