quikdash6 asked: Mark Cuban is starting his own MMA organization called the WCL (World Combat League). His business tactics and emotions have been both questioned and praised during his ownership of the Dallas Mavericks. Do you think him entering the business world of MMA is going to help its overall growth or is it going to hinder it? He hired Guy Metzger to run the day to day happenings and says that he will start treating the fighters like professional athletes. So do you think the WCL will be able to compete with UFC, or will it be gone in a few years, or will it be one of the hundreds of new organizations that have recently popped up and just be a “farm league” for the new talent? Please explain your answer.
Correction: I got my leagues mixed up. WCL is still Chuck Norris’s fighting competition. Mark Cuban’s at this time is under his HDNet company. It doesn’t seem like it has an “official” name as of yet.

I was under the impression that the WCL was a full contact karate league backed by Chuck Norris, not MMA backed by Mark Cuban.
But more feeder leagues for the UFCs and EliteXCs and K-1s of the world is a good thing.
He is loaded, so he can get inverstors, which can potentially help create a succesful league, he also has business-know-how and experience.
I hope it’s succesful, as I see it as healthy competition, forcing other organizations to improve, only time will tell wether or not it will be able to compete with the UFC.
That sounds cool. The more people into this style of fighting, the better products there will be. The only thing that could hurt MMA is unification of one league. Variety, as it is in nature, is preferable to unity. This is a good sign.
Mark Cuban is a great business man and Metzger is a top
notch guy to have help run the organization. But i can see
pro’s and con’s in this. The pro’s… fighters will be treated like
the athletes they are and finally get paid!!! It could put Dana Whites (Zuffa) practical monopoly of the sport in check which is a huge plus! Cons… when huge money comes into play there is always that danger of it becoming jaded and fixed!! I could very easily see mma turning into pro boxing and the hammill/bisping fight could be the common in the future!! So i dont know if it is a good or a bad thing!!
