it depends on the tournament. many fighters that are in the UFC and other pro-MMA organizations did a lot of amateur MMA events in their teens before going pro. as for a diet, it depends on what your body needs at the time. if you’re needing to lose weight, i would suggest eating less calories while taking supplements. and after you’re weighed in, i would suggest eating complex carbs, like pasta, before your fight for energy. as for a work out regimen, i would suggest a lot of cardio training and train your muscles for endurance as well as strength. when lifting weights, i would alternate days where you do a lot of reps using low weight and days when you train with heavier weights. and you should try to get some one to spar with and to help motivate you.

Age wise: adult (atleast 18) sometimes you could squeeze in at 17 if you get a parent that will sign you off.
conditioning: Train with a group atleast 2 or 3 days a week work one day on standup, another day on ground. If you have a third day work transition from standing to ground (takedowns and spraw drills) As far as diet go’s most guys, at least the guys I work with, are only around 5 lbs heavier as walk around weight than their fight weight. The workouts will really help keep the weight down (I always lose atleast 1 pound during training) A “secret” is not eating after 8 or 9 at night just drink water, whenever you get feel like you want to eat, drink water. Eat Rhamon noodles. Alot of the guys eat a pack of those noodles twice a day for a few days before a fight, that helps. The diet thing is really an one on one thing, everyone is differant. I don’t care about my weight anymore. I hover around 200 and for me that’s fine. I do not diet anymore. When I fought at 185 I was 185 all the time, even then I didn’t have to watch my weight. Even before that I fought at 175, I had to push to keep that weight on.
