oh and please dont awnser it depends on how fast your learn i just want to know how long it would take for the AVERAGE person to be able to use mma effectivly in a street fight against someone thats untrained but i am a fast learner and have wrestled before.

depends on how fast of a learner you are, and how you can apply what you learn into real combat.
any person with combat training will have the advantage in a street fight over a person who is untrained and since you said you wrestled then you would probably already have a decent advantage because you can take the person to the ground and control them. but there is no average time that person becomes a good fighter.
It all depends on each individual person. Some people absorb knowlege slower than others and it depends on how good the instructor is too.
It’s not, you’re thinking of a martial art. M”MA” isn’t a martial art. It’s a sport and a method of training. That’s like asking how long would it take for golf to be effective in a street fight.
I think in about 6 months you will learn enough to be ok in a street fight. Your wrestling knowledge will help you tremendously in understanding mma. The main thing that slows a person down in mma is the ground grappling part of it. If you have wrestling then you should understand a lot of it already. You just have to work on the striking part and that will come much quicker. I also believe you could probably fight (in a mma match) within 6 months too. If you have this experience it will just reinforce your effectiveness for a street fight. I’ll add this too since someone dismissed mma as just a sport. It’s obvious it works for the street. I believe mma and all of the other combat sports (like boxing, wrestling, judo, Brazilian jujitsu, and all that have full-contact sport competitions) are very good. No, you don’t learn street techniques like eye gouges or biting someone but I think you could improvise if you needed to pretty easily. It’s one of the best systems out there to take if you need to learn how to fight and quick. Boxing is faster to learn and use but it just doesn’t have the groundwork so, mma is better overall.
IMO your first day would give you an adge on someone who’s never trained MMA.
